Overview:
Himalayan peoples encompass diverse Tibeto-Burman ethnic groups living across the Himalayan range and adjacent highlands, from Northeast India through Myanmar to Southwest China and mainland Southeast Asia. These peoples often live intermingled with South Asian, Southeast Asian, and East Asian populations while retaining distinctive languages and cultural identities. They practice varied religions including Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, and traditional animistic beliefs. The Burmese form the majority population in Myanmar, while most other Himalayan peoples are minority communities within their respective nations. Many maintain traditional highland lifestyles and face challenges related to geographic isolation and limited access to resources and services.
