Overview: The Bhojpur-Maithili people cluster encompasses more than a dozen people groups that speak the Bhojpuri or Maithili languages. Bhojpuri is spoken in the western part of Bihar state and northwestern Jharkhand. Maithili is spoken in Bihar and Jharkhand in India as well as across the border into Nepal. Most of the people groups classified as Bhojpur-Maithili are relatively small.
